Wellness Examinations and VaccinationsDr._Anderson__Jamie_and_Sparty.jpg

An important step you can take to promote continuing health for your pet is to schedule bi-annual wellness examinations.  One of our veterinarians will perform a comprehensive physical that includes an examination of your pet's teeth, eyes, ears, skin, heart and lungs, etc., providing you with a complete examination checklist for your pet. Additionally, vaccinations are updated and screening is done for heartworms and internal parasites.  vaccines should begin at 6 weeks of age and continue at 4 week intervals until your pet is older than 4 months.

We recommend the following vaccines for dogs:

  • Distemper: Includes Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus
    • Frequency: Anually, or as recommended by your veterinarian based on your pet's lifestyle.
  • Rabies: Repeated every three years after the first year.
    • Frequency: Michigan law requires a current Rabies vaccine for canines.
  • Bordetella: Kennel Cough
    • Frequency: Every 6 months if your dog is groomed, boarded or bathed at our hospital.

We recommend the following vaccines for cats:

  • Feline Distemper: Includes Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia,
    • Frequency: Annually, or as recommended by your veterinarian based on your pet's lifestyle.
  • Rabies
    • Repeated every three years after the first year.
    • PureVax: New (feline only) rabies vaccine we curently recommended due to the reduce risks of injection site sarcoma.
  • Feline Leukemia:
    • Your cat should be tested for feline leukemia prior to its first feline leukemia vaccination.
