We hope you enjoy learning more about how Cascade Hospital for Animals started, and the people who helped it get to where it is today.
Dr. Richard Siegle Sr. and his wife Mabel decided to meet the needs of their growing clientele from the Lowell and Grand Rapids areas, so they purchased the Slater Farm in Cascade. The lower level of the farm house was converted into a clinic, while the upstairs served as an apartment for the on-call caretaker. In January 1955 Cascade Hospital for Animals opened as both a small and large animal practice. Dr. Siegle would see small animals during business hours at the clinic and then Mabel would drive him out in the country to doctor large animals at area farms.
Dr. Richard Siegle Jr. joined the practice when he graduated from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. Exhibiting the same drive as his father, Richard Jr. designed and decorated a new hospital in 1983 that now serves as Cascade Hospital for Animals and received national honors as Hospital of the Year competition from Veterinary Economics.
Dr. Steven McBride joined the practice in 1989 and became partner with Dr. Siegle Jr. in January 1995. This partnership has led Cascade Hospital for Animals into becoming the leaders in veterinary medicine in West Michigan. They provide the latest diagnostic and treatment regimens and partner with many area veterinary practices to provide specialized technology or skill sets that may not exist at those clinics.
