      Abbey's Story

I adopted Abbey from your facility in August of 1996. I came in early one morning when they were bringing the puppies out to the adoption center. Abbey scurried towards me and when I picked her up, she nuzzled into my neck. That was all it took. I went to the desk asking for the adoption papers. I have loved that dog as my own child ever since. On 3-13-08 she was called to be with the Lord. I will miss her every day of my life. She was my best friend and the child I could not have. I could not have asked for a better companion. Thank you to Cascade Animal Hospital for all you did for us and for introducing me to the love of my life.

      Alysha's Story

I found Alysha on 10/24/93 as a tiny kitten in a bee-infested dumpster. She was the most tremendous kitten (and cat) -- mischevious, yet also loving with a tremendous purr. She delighted in playing fetch, hide-and-seek in the bathtub, sunning herself, and rolling in catnip. Alysha had a tremendous will to live! She overcame tremendous health issues, including anorexia, feline asthma, a life-threatening infection of her uterus, major surgery for a stomach obstruction, and wound debridement of her groin. Alysha received many compliments not only for her markings, but also for being such a good-natured cat during her many medical procedures. Her final health challenge was kidney disease diagnosed in October, 2003. Her will to live was evident as she cheerfully put up with daily home fluid therapy, medications, and checks of her kidney function. It was through the skill and knowledge of Dr. Richard Siegle in treating her that Alysha`s years with me were as long as they were. Her quality of life was excellent. Alysha was my "kitty soul mate" and I miss Alysha tremendously to this day. I am grateful for the 11 years that we did have together.

      Baby's Story

"Baby" was a delightful Doll-faced Persian who came to live with me at age eleven weeks. Although her CFA registered name was "Lady Cagney of Gless", I began asking "...where is the Baby kitty??" She quickly learned to respond solely to the name, Baby. Her CFA registered name was given to honour actress Sharon Gless, who performed a favour for me the preceeding month. Like many Persians, Baby was very affectionate. She seemed to have an inner sense of visitors who were allergic to cats and delighted in seeking them out. Baby received lovely groomings and veterinary care at Cascade Hospital for Animals. Sadly in November 2002, Doctor Siegle detected a mass which proved to be cancerous. Because of Baby`s age and the inoperable site of the tumour, I elected to provide hospice care for Baby. Baby enjoyed a healthy quality of life for the next twelve months, despite her cancer. She continued to chase toy mice and open plastic cannisters of catnip on her own. Sadly, she lost her battle with cancer and went to the Rainbow Bridge on 07 November 2003. I am most grateful to Doctor Richard L. Siegle for his veterinary care which gave me the extra twelve months of quality life with her.

      Brazos's Story

This dog was one of those amazing animals that come once in your life. A head turner and about as perfect mix of affection and charm for a constant companion as any dog lover could ask for. Too smart, too gorgeous, too grand to ever be anything but the possibly THE dog of our lives. We've had other dogs; we'll have more; they'll all be special, but this one was the one. I feel privileged to have had him near me for 11 short years. Thanks, baby dog...thanks. And thanks to CHFA and Dr. Hoss for making his last days easier for him and for us.

      Butch's Story

Butch was the second lab that we bought. We drove to Kentucky to pick up Butch. We thought that we would need to bring a small cage but we held Butch all the way back home on our laps. Right away everyone thought that he had such a good looking face for a lab. He would come into the TV room and put his head on my knee and look up at me and just seem to say "I Love You". Butch was a very special dog to our family and we all will miss him more than words can say. Butch, we all love you!

      Camus's Story

Camus (pronounced "ka-MOO")was an international traveler who came to us from Tasmania. He was loving, calm and patient with everyone in the family, even the "macho" male cats who tried to rule over him. He just ignored them when they got too full of themselves. He loved to sleep in our laps and followed us around until we would park someplace so he could have first shot at the newly available lap. We loved him greatly and he will be sorely missed until we`re with him again.

      Cassy's Story

Cassy was our first lab and our kids loved her very much as they grew up. She was a dog that wanted to be in charge and felt that any food left in the kitchen was just for her. We had many happy moments with her and Butch our other lab is still depressed that she is gone, like the rest of us. We all love you, Cassy.

      Emon's Story

My friend Terri, an employee at Cascade, knew I was looking for a companion for my 2 year old chocolate lab Rudy. When Emon came in for adoption, Terri called me. Emon had just had surgery to remove her injured front leg and her owner wanted to give the 1 1/2 year old away.
I remember it like it was yesterday, when I first saw Emon on May 16, 1995. I took her home on May 22. She was born in December 1993 and she lived over 14 years.
Emon loved our summers at Buttersville Park, Lake Michigan in the Ludington area. I think that she would have swum to Wisconsin if we would have let her. Until her senior years, she never acted as though she had a disability. People were amazed with her ability to get around and do "normal" dog things - Running, Swimming and digging holes were her favorites (besides eating of course!)
I like to think that Emon is going to a better place where she can again do all her favorite things that her age and arthritis has prevented her from doing.

      Ginger's Story

Ginger was my first rescue piggie. She was a strong-willed little girl, always the alpha piggie no matter who I paired her with. She loved to run and popcorn (jumping straight up in the air, with a little "wheek" just because she felt like it!!). She was an independent little soul and is greatly missed.

      Graysea's Story

Graysea adopted ME from a dreadful kitten mill she was living in as a young kitten at approximately 8 weeks of age. She had vivid green eyes, sleek blue-ish gray fur, and enormous ears (which she finally grew into). Graysea ("sea of gray") quickly forgot the kitten mill. She let it be known that I lived with her. She understood "no, no" ... and understood that it did not apply to her! Taking the telephone receiver off the hook or pressing the Redial button brought her great joy. She also enjoyed "mountain climbing" (curtain climbing) using her teeth and rear claws. Graysea was affectionate as well. She slept with her paw on my face every night, untill her advanced cancer caused her quality of life to cease. "You were a wonderful cat, Graysea."

      Joey's Story

When I saw you at the shelter just over a year ago, something told me that you were meant to by our pet, despite the snotty nose and disheveled appearance. We were not really in the market for another animal since we already had 2 dogs and a cat. Your father initially thought I was crazy when I brought this tiny, dirty little cat home that smelled to high heaven, but you won him over very quickly. I could not find you that first night and I searched everywhere, only to find you snuggling in bed with him. You came to us with an open heart, and adjusted right away into our family. You especially loved your pet siblings & they loved you too. You loved to clean them off, especially Sam. You touched the hearts of everyone you came in contact with and always won over those who were not "cat lovers". It didn`t matter who it was, men, women, children, other animals. You were the first one to greet everyone when they came into our home. No matter how awful our day was, how stressed out we were, you were always there to give us many sandpaper kisses and wonderful headbutts. You had the greatest purrbox I`ve ever heard. You loved everyone and everything so much. In the short time you were with us, you taught us what unconditional love truly is. You never were very healthy, but when we took you to the vet that last time, we had no idea just how sick you were. Our hearts broke the day we had to set you free, but we knew it was the best decision for you. We did not want you to suffer. You were an amazing friend and are greatly missed by your mom, dad and your "sisters". We especially miss those kisses and snuggles you offered up so freely. I know God has a special place for you in heaven. We love you, Joe!

Juliet - My Sweet Sweet's Story

Juliet came to us on a cold snowy day in February at the age of 10 weeks. She was a magnificent white standard poodle who was elegant, funny, sweet and extremely intelligent. We loved her so. She became ill at just the age of two and a half years from what was presumed at that time to be tic infestation. She was treated and thought cured, only to relapse at the beginning of December and ultimately die of what was then presumed to be an autoimmune disorder. Her illness was swift and relentless and death was quick. Our hearts are broken. She was young and adorable and will always be missed. We thank everyone at Cascade Hospital for all they did for her and for our family. We cannot bring her back, but she will never be forgotten. I hope it is true all dogs go to heaven so that we can be with her again. Love, Mamma - We miss you Sweet Sweet ;(

      Kenzi's Story

Mikenzi Sno's Blue Eyed Magic was such an important part of our lives. I picked her up one day and brought her home to meet our Kitty and she was FULL of fleas! I thought "what have I gotten myself into?" It turns out I got my self into a companion full of so much love it was crazy. For 13 years she was my shadow, she loved her Mom the most. Almost 2 years ago I had twin boys and before they came into our lives Kenzi wasn't real fond of kids. Even on the day I had to surrender her love she was nothing but gentle to our babies. We have another dog so our house is not totally empty. But to me there is a very big void I know will never be filled. She lived a very full and happy life I have no regrets. I just miss her so much. Mikenzi, Mom loves you!

      Kitty's Story

Kitty was such a beautiful cat that we could not find a name that really did her justice. She was little Kitty when she was small, Ms. Kitty in mid years and Kitty girl in her senior years, always "Kitty". Losing Kitty at this time was unexpected and something we were forced to deal with. She was a people Kitty, a lap Kitty. She loved to be where I was. When I would get ready to go out she would sit on the counter and watch and sometimes get her nose powdered too. She would wait for me to put water in the sink for her to drink. 5:45 each morning she knew it was up and at em , time for food. She knew to wait till at least 7:00 on the weekends, then I`m in your face. Some days the bed did not get made because she was sleeping on it or I would go to make the bed only to find she was the lump under the covers and then me apologizing to her for disturbing her. She slept at the foot of the bed and if she got there first and claimed her place we adjusted to her sleeping position. I`m thinking she was spoiled. She would just know when I was going on the computer and get comfy in the chair before me. Same with dinner - she would know I would be sitting in the chair and get there first too. She loved these games. Christmas, I think, was her favorite time. When the tree went up she claimed it. Always sleeping under it. When presents went under we had to leave one open space for her. She loved to be brushed and when I mentioned the word Vet she would go and hide from me. She and I had some great conversatons, mostly one sided, but sometimes she would put her two cents in. I will really miss her but know she is walking with other four legged friends - God Bless you sweet Kitty - you were loved.

      Lexie's Story

For my dear Lexie who is at peace now at the Rainbow Bridge:

      "The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
      And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
      And give you peace."
      Numbers 6: 24-26

Many thanks to Cascade Hospital for Animals, and particularly Dr. Richard Siegle, for his help in making a difficult decision less painful.

      Lexie, you are missed greatly.
